Pattern text?

It appears text is not selectable when using the patterning tools.  Is this the case?

Is there a way to space text at regular intervals?  I need to label a pattern from 50 to 1 and would rather not spend hours doing it.  Right now for every character I need to right click, click repeat text, click the position, enter 4mm, enter 180 degrees, enter the number, click ok.  Only 85 to go..

Hello,

The text in sketch isn't selectable for pattern, it is a nice idea of improvement. I think about the workaround.

lets say I need the pattern of text for extrude, or any other modeling feature to modify my design.

Here I have a solution: I would make the text in sketch, extrude it and apply pattern. Please follow attached video.

In case this isn't your plan, please would you share your idea (attach picture) with the pattern of text? I would try to find another way. 😉

regards

Martin

That looks like it would work fine for static text, but I need to have a sequence of numbers (50 49 48 ... 3 2 1).  I tried it in Inkscape, but that didn't have decent tools to do paterned text either.  Now trying with Draftsight.  I was able to make the text pattern easily, but getting it into a format Fusion would recognize was a challenge (needed to use command explodetext which is not in the menus and not in the version I had been using.)

Now I've got the text pattern in fusion, but Fusion didn't read it as all closed profiles and as far as I can tell has no heal tool, so this is still going to be a many hour project.

Hi skrubol,

Reading through your last post, what file format did you use to get the text from Draftsight?

Would you be able to share the file that Fusion wasn't reading as closed profiles?

Thanks

Colin

Sorry for the late reply, haven't really been back to the computer I did the import on (and forgot that the file was in my data panel.)  I ended up using a .dwg, but I think .dxf was similar.  I've attached the file.  I wouldn't be surprised if the file had some issues, it seems that Draftsight doesn't do a great job converting text to sketch elements (all lines I think..)

I've since finished the project I was working on, but I can see other cases where I'd like to number positions in something, and the lack of a sketch heal tool applies to a lot of things.

Thanks again.

Was a solution found for this?  I'm having the same issue...patterning a sequence of numbers.

I am also stumped on trying to make a pattern with text.  The work around using extruded bodies is not Ideal because I would like to be able to edit the text once it is repeated.  I am currently trying to produce test samples with incremental adjustments and the text will serve as a label.  So two features would be great to have here:

1.)  Ability to sketch text as a pattern.

2.)  Sketch text as pattern in a sequence.

Looking forward to a solution!  Thanks!

If you want to edit the text in the copies a pattern is not really the best idea because patterned copies will not be editable without breaking\deleting the pattern. Your best bet is the create the first text label then use copy paste, this way the copies will be editable.

This example is made by copying the test text once then paste 3 time and edit.

Is there any update on that Topic?

I also could need to select a text as object in the pattern feature in a sketch.

Many Thanks

Pattern Text - Here is a use case... Say I have a laser cutter, and I want to make a clock face, and cut it out of 3mm plywood.   My goal would be to create a sketch that could be exported to DXF cut file.

Being able to make a circular pattern for text for the numerals would be great.

I found a workaround;  Select the text you want to pattern.  Copy using CTRL-C, CTRL-V, then select "Change Pivot Point"  select the center of the circle, or a point on a grid that you created in a separate step using lines and pattern tool.  Then Paste the object repeatedly using these steps...

Hey Autodesk, it's now 10 years since this feature had been requested. Any updates? Seems so basic to pattern text...but still impossible.

The solution for this, which should work for others, is to first create a pattern of paths. Then use the text to path tool. For a clock face, you can make a construction (dashed) circle. Then create a small arc at the top where the 12 will go. Then use the circular pattern tool to make 12 arcs. Then add each number to the different arcs. I think this would work for anything, create a bunch of small paths in the pattern you want the text. The catch is you can't put multiple texts on the same path. For example you can't have all the numbers for a clock spaced out on one big circle path. You need to have separate arcs in a pattern. 🙏
