Patch tool, (Error: The operation failed. Try adjusting the values or changing the input geometry.)

I'm trying to patch the bottom of this car design, but It keeps saying

"Error: The operation failed.
Try adjusting the values or changing the input geometry."

Any ideas on how to sort this out?

hard to say without seeing the model (file\export as .f3d and attach)

you will possibly need to add some interior rails and/or patch it in smaller bits.

It looks like the surface may have originally been a tspline/form body.  surface quality close to star points can also cause surfacing features to fail.  It looks like you may have a few right along the edge.  Will be able to help more once we see the model.

Ok, yes I made it using T-splines then converted it to BRep. I've now attached the file.

Thank you

It's pretty easy to say. The reason is almost always the same.

1. Trimming the bottom and rear of a T-spline with a spline (probably a fit-point spline) will almost always exhibit curvature problems.

2. Trying to 'fill" the entire bottom with a single patch, even if a patch would be created is almost 100% certainly no going to result in "flat" surfaces.

etc.

Thanks everyone, I fixed it by removing the small curves behind the wheel and that seemed to fix the problem! 😄

I did not have a chance to look at the model earlier. Nicely modeled!

I still would be very careful with some of the workflows.

For example, for the front lamps, you create a T-spline body, which you use to trim another T-Spline.

This kills the curvature of edges and can lead to modeling problems down the line. Might be Ok for this model, but I would not use that technique for production-ready product design.

Thanks for the advice, after all, I'm just doing a small project to practice using tools in Fusion 360.

I quite like the outcome of it. Thanks, everyone! 😄
