Parameter update not working

Anonymous

Hello,

I have create a parametric design and save it in F3D to be able to transfer it on friend hub. it work perfectly on my mac computer but as soon as i open it on my friend computer (windows) some parameter do not update.

Something strange is that even a parameter create on sketch (d424 for example) is not update.

if i create a user parameter equal to d424 dimension, the value is not good.

Hope yu can slove this one also.

Hello again @Anonymous!

What specifically is going wrong on your end, and which dimensions are you altering? I'm afraid I may need a translation Smiley LOL

I can see right now the walls do not update when the "floor"/bottom is changed - is this one thing you were experiencing?

Can you possibly post a screencast so I can get an idea of what you are attempting?

Thanks!

Hello,

I wrote the first message from Felix Computer.

So if you want to test if it work on your computer you can try any of following:

1- Change the parameter "Env_L_Retour_sol" it will change the depth of the cabin. Accordinly it will change the with of the the right hand side pannel.

2- Change the parameter "Env_H_Facade_mur", it will change all panels higth.

3- Create a user parameter named "dd" (for example) and give him a value of 5. Now, change the value for d424 which is an existing dimension equal to -1/2.

All those tests are not working on windows Felix computer but are working on my 2 computer's (one mac and one windows).

There is only one bug that is not alway working on mine. If i change "PrtL_H_Verre" it change door hight but it also change cutout on panels to fix hinges. Sometimes when i change it a couple of times (increasing and decreasing value), left hand side cutout panel, do not follow. but i change it again and it works.

I have reinstall fusion 360 on felix computer. It take one hours and a half to install it. Is Dell laptop have 6 mouth, it has a i7 processor, 16go of ram so..... i don't understand.

If someone have an idea..... Please let me know.

Pierre

I do not have any answers for this issue.

Did computer performance can result a wrong parameter solving?

Did an antivirus can slow down installation and corrupt solving?

Please if someone have an idea.

Hi @Anonymous,

I took a look at the model a bit.  It's a liitle hard to say whether what I was seeing was correct or not.  I tried these steps:

1- Change the parameter "Env_L_Retour_sol" it will change the depth of the cabin. Accordinly it will change the with of the the right hand side pannel.

2- Change the parameter "Env_H_Facade_mur", it will change all panels higth.

3- Create a user parameter named "dd" (for example) and give him a value of 5. Now, change the value for d424 which is an existing dimension equal to -1/2.

(all except for the d424 change - where is d424? what feature or component is it in?)

This was on a Windows (Win10) computer.  Without knowing the design in any detail, I can't say exactly whether what I saw was correct or not.  The values did seem to have an effect on the model, though.  I will post a screencast of what I saw.

If possible, could you do the same?  Post a screencast of what you see and what you expect to work differently?

thanks,

jeff

Jeff,

You can see what i want to show you at the begining of the video. Before you change any value.

Look at the side panel, it is going throw the wall. Its width is supposed to have the value "PSR_L_pleine_sol" 37 1/2 but it is 41 1/2 when you open the model.

An other example in the front 3 panels. There is a tilted top. It is not supposed to be tilted because the higth is define by the parameter "PS_H_pleine_porte" 90in like all other top corner panels.

But my problem is that on your computer, it works like on mine's. I have a mac and a windows and it works fine. But as soon as i open the model on Felix's computer, parameters do not update properly. The model i put on the post is the model i save from his computer after modifying some parameters.

You just have to do a test by just opening the initial model and just do a CtrL B to force an update and you will see that the model will update properly.

I want to understand why on Felix's computer, the update do not finish properly like on your's or mine.

For me it is ununderstandable.

Thanks Jeff i hope you can find way to solve this one.

Jeff,

To check if it can come from his computer only, my friend Felix have try fusion on 2 other computers on the same network. He also have the problem on his other computers. He also try on offline mode.

Same result for all. The model is not updating properly like on yours or on mine.

Where can it came from?

I don't understand all the details yet.  But, @Phil.E and I took a look at the design, and I think it has to do with the setting that controls how dimensions are displayed:

inch type.png

I think this because some of the parameters in here are in that style (1/2"), while others are in the decimal format.  And, because these preferences are associated with a user, not with a computer, those settings will follow you around to each computer you use.  This explains why Felix and you have different behaviors.  Can you both look at your setting here and see whether you have differences?  If so, see if having Felix change his makes the model work.

I think there is a bug in Fusion in this area - it should be fine to switch between display types, and the same behavior should happen.  But, until we can find and fix this bug, it might be better for those collaborating on a common project to use the same setting.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, Phil,

THANK YOU!

I will never forget this one. It works perfectly now since Felix change its setting in fractionnal of inch like me.

So do you consider that it is a bug because the software is supposed to be able to calculate parameters what ever are settings?

Thanks again for the accurate support you gave us. I'm impressed.

Yes we are currently looking for the best way to deal with this. We aren't yet sure about how or when to make a change to fix this.

Thanks again for pointing it out and helping.
