Open step files?

Hello.

I've received a small assembly from a customer that are a step file.

I've made a new project and uploaded the file to it ( around 9 mb).

I can see the file and look at it in the dashboard. But when I try to open it in fusion. The upload always says failed. And there is no " open in fusion" button?

How do I open a step file in fusion?

Hope you understand what I mean?

Thank you

You most likely uploaded the file in the Dashboard. It sounds like you may need to upload through the command in the data panel. There should be an option to create a Fusion 360 design if you right click on the design in the Data Panel.

See the below tip for more information.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/post-your-tips-and-tutorials/data-exchange-in-fusion-360-build-2-0-129...

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Have you tried using the upload command in the data panel?

If possible, could you share a public link of the step file with me? You can e-mail it to nathan.chandler@autodesk.com.

Thanks,

Hi Sandflo,

Are you able to upload the step file here for us to take a look at?  Perhaps we will be able to upload it and then export a .f3d file for you to work with, or be able to determine what is happening to not allow the model to be imported correctly.  Please upload the file if possible.

Thanks,

James

Hi Sandflo,

I was able to upload the model.  After doing so I right clicked on it in the data panel and picked open.  The model opened without a problem. Here is a link to the file: http://a360.co/13MGZXm  If this doesn't work, email me at james.herzing@autodesk.com and I will email you the .f3d file directly.

Please let me know if this file doesn't work for you as well, it is very strange that you are encountering trouble with this.

Are you uploading the F3D file via the Upload command located in the Data Panel? I just tested and it seems to work okay on my end. Are you experiencing any intermittent network connectivity issue?

Thanks,

Hi.
That was how I did it aswell. Upload via data panel . But still no luck. I will try to make a screencast or something on it tomorrow.
I've tried to upload different file formats maybe 10 times. It fails every time!?
My Internet connection is solid.
I don't understand what's going on.

It may help to manually clear the upload queue out. See the below link for instruction on how to do that.

Thanks,

It may also help to manually clear a few cached directories.

Close Fusion 360.

Locate and delete the below directories.

Windows
%localappdata%\autodesk\autodesk fusion 360\{ID}/PLM360Cache
%localappdata%\temp\autodesk\BrowserCache

Mac

~Library/application support/Autodesk/Autodesk fusion 360/{ID}/PLM360Cache
go to Terminal and use open $TMPDIR/Autodesk  and locate the  BrowserCache directory

Next, restart Fusion 360 and re-test. The directories should be re-created at run time.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you still are having difficulties uploading the file.

Thanks,

Can you upload a copy of your diagnostic log files? Make sure to get the log files after you get the upload error to so they contain information on the error?

I created a project with the file already uploaded and invited you into it. You may see if you can access the file through that project.

Were you able to clear the cached directories? Did it help? Does this error occur if you select a different project to upload it to?

Thanks,

Ive tried a Clean install that Nathan suggested and it solved the problem, but I'm interested in what caused the problem?! So if you could look at the logs and se if there something wrong!

Sandflo,

Thanks for your reply.

The above fixes haven't worked for me either.

I don't see anywhere in this thread where Nathan suggested a clean reinstall. Were f360 specific instructions given?

Best,

Brian
