If I understand your question, the answer depends on the type of Fusion 360 License. If you have a Subscription or Educational license you can add components as Linked External files into a common assembly and then if you want to edit them, you can use the Edit in Place option. With any type of license you can do the same thing but to edit the file, you will have to right click on the Linked External file and select Open. After editing and saving, return to the assembly and use the update icon.
