Object hollow when slicing

Hi,

I am new to Fusion 360. I try to design a replacement part. The public link is: http://a360.co/1TRWynT

My issue is that the pins shafts are hollow when I export the object as stl and slice them for 3d printing. If I run a section analysis on the object the pins seems to be filled. I don't know why this happens.

I am sure it's my fault. I just don't know what I did wrong. Any advice?

Thanks

Robert

Hi Robert,

thank you @r.voigtlaender for sharing your design. I have checked your pin shaft it and it is absolutely fine, just few chamfers in the history are not referenced.

As soon as you export a solid body into an stl file only the outer suface will be outputed as triangular mesh.

The 3D Print Tool like Autodesk PrintStudio and Autodesk MeshMixer requires just a watertight hollow model which is represented by closed triangular mesh.

The tool treats the closed watertight stl mesh as solid part and creates the toolpath for this. I think this video here is very helpful to refine the surface of your stl file.

I would recommend to change the maximum edge length to a minium of 0.75 mm for your part which creates uniform mesh and captures more features.

I hope my explanation and the video helps a to understand the process.

Thanks

Thanks for checking the model. Good to know that the model is ok. Must be a
flaw with the slicer then. I solved it by adding more outer perimeters.
This forced the shaft to be filled.
Never had such a problem before.

The tip with the max edge length was great. The STL is much more detailed
now.

Again. Thanks.
