If you right click a split face feature in the timeline there's no edit option in the patch workspace. Is there a reason for the difference or is it a bug?

I think that is a bug. Let me investigate. In the meantime, double click seems to work. Just double click on the feature in the timeline.

Just like to add, edit is missing from split body as well.
