Hi -

this seems like it should be dirt simple, but I cannot figure out how to split a torus in half.

Can someone point me to a tutorial that shows this or something like this

Thanks

I think you can do this by

  1. Construct->Axis through Torus
  2. Modify->Silhouette Split.

It seems harder than it is. Assuming you want to cut a torus that is located anywhere, and slice it like a bagel, here is the method:

The video gets a little choppy at the end. The last command is a Split Body using the sketch line as a cutting tool.

Hi --

Thanks for all the replies!

I won't get a chance to try out the suggestions until later,  but one of the earlier replies made me realize that I did not clarify how I want to split the torus.

I don't want to cut it like a bagel, but I'll definitely check out the answer in case I want to do that later 🙂

I just want to cut it into 2 semi-circle pieces.

Thanks

Just like slicing bagels, what you suggest is easier than cutting the other way.

So I made them look like cinnamon bagels and have sliced them the other direction for you. 🙂

Thanks!

I tried a bunch of stuff and knew I wanted a plane, but the one thing I did not think to try was "Plane At Angle" because it was not obvious what that command does.

That was the key thing I needed to learn.
