Nested Rigid Groups / Joints

I'm a mentor for my son's FRC team and have successfully converted most of the CAD kids over to Fusion360.  I'm helping now cleaning up their Model structure and develop the team's Technical Documentation.

One issue we've run into is trying to create the nested rigid groups to demonstrate & validate the model motion.

In the attached picture, the entire upper structure moves fore/aft on some linear bearings (A+B+C).  Then, the upper arm section (B+C) pivot around an axle high up in the structure.  Finally, the gripper mechanism (C) extends/retracts.

How would I model & link these different sections together?  I first tried using Rigid Joints (a joint for Group A+B+C, a Group for B+C and a third for just C) but it pops up a message about Constraining components and it results in movement of the highest "order" (A+B+C)

Do I have to resort to actually using Joints?

Please share the model. export as .f3d or .f3z and attach it to a post.

Yes, you very likely have to use "normal" joints.

Section A needs a Slider Joint to the Base

Section B needs a Revolve Joint to A

Section C needs a Slider Joint to Section B.

Any Rigid Grouping would not overlap into any other Section.

Might help....

Have you looked at the design file?

Are you using a paid subscription ?

In that case you can just share the public link to the design.

Make sure to enable download.

This might also work with an educational subscription..

Thanks! I'll look at it as soon as Autodesk has gotten their act together;-)

I still cannot download this model.

If you want to, I can send you a PM and you can just email the file to me.

I appreciate the offers of help.  I figured out a workaround by creating Selection Sets for each movement portion and just moving/rotating manually.

The problem with such workaround is that they start failing as the designs progress 😉

No disagreement there.  Thankfully the design is 95% complete, with the remainder of CAD work being capturing real-world "adjustments", aka "we forgot to model this component, let's find a spot for it and fix CAD later" 😂

Also, this is mostly for glamour screen shots for use in documentation
