MOVING A SKETCH TO ANOTHER PLANE

Hi I am truing to move a sketch to another plane but when i do it no longer sees it as a complete shape and wont let me extrude or loft etc help!! pics attached

Are you using the move tool, or are you using "redefine sketch plane"?

You have created a 3D spline.  That's why it no longer identifies as a profile (needed for Extrude).  Somehow, the points in this spline have become non-planar.  You can have geometry that is not on the sketch plane be recognized as a profile, but it must be strictly planar.

What I would recommend is:

  • select that spline, right click, and choose "Move to Sketch Plane" - this will put it back onto the sketch plane.
  • then, very carefully, select just that spline, and choose Move.  You should be able to move it in the Z direction

Also, it would be worth the effort to learn how to use fewer control points on your splines.  At first it may seem like you need all those points to get the shape, but you really don't.  You'll end up with crummy surface geometry, and you'll also kill the performance of your machine.

 

Throw a curvature comb on your spline and you'll see what I mean.
