Move axis is incorrect?

When moving a component along the z-axis (blue), the window shows the move distance in the "Y-Distance"  Am I missing something?  I changed my default "up" to be the z-axis, but I don't see why that should cause this issue

The workspace has a global origin and each component has its own origin. Which origin is that in the screen shot?

You'll have to be careful about which object type is selected in the Move dialog. You may select to do a body or component move.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

The component and global axis seem to align (blue to blue). Blue is the z-axis? Movement shows in the y-direction in the dialog box. Just doesn’t seem right. Any other explanation?

If you hover over the Z axis in the model browser (expand the Origin folder), it will highlight the axis in the workspace.

Mine are

X - Red

Y- Green

Z - Blue

I believe this is standard no matter the Z-up or Y-up preference settings.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

That’s what I expected. So why is it that when I move a component along the z-axis (blue, as shown in the image previously sent) the dialog box shows movement in the y-direction. Still unclear on my original question. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the mechanics of how Fusion is wired?

What you are saying makes sense! In the initial screenshot, you are using the Body option in Object.

Do you get the same thing if you use the Move Component option?

I've been testing the move command on my side and it seems to line up with the component's default axis. For the Move Body, I suspect the triad may be using it's own XYZ relative to the selected geometry and that is what is confusing. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks,

That looks like the problem.  When I select “move” from the top panel, movement in the z-direction shows y-direction movement in the dialog box.  If I select movement from right-clicking on the component z-direction movement shows z-direction movement in the dialog box.  Both the component and the global axis align.  I’m not sure where the issue is, but I would expect the same dialog box values displayed for both cases.  Fusion may want to look into that.  Thanks for explaining what was going on.

Hello Nathan,

I have ran into this issue also, I have 2 bodies from the same sketch, both extruded in the Z axis.

Copy-Paste one body, when repositioned in the Z axis, the Move tool updates the Z Axis.

Copy-Paste the same body and moving the triad to the center of the other body, when repositioned in the Z axis, the Move tool updates the Y axis.

Doing the same with a Component gives the same result.

Only choosing the sketchpoint center as starting point, gives consistent results. Z stays "Up".

Please correct me if I'm wrong but can 2 bodies from 1 sketch have a different coordinate system, changing the Z-up to Y-up?

When inserting Components created with an other axis as "Up" it seems logical that the Move tool assumes the same Component "Up" axis.

If 2 bodies from the same sketch, extruded in the same Z-axis, can have different "Up" axes, is there a way to know which axis is "Up" for a given Body or Component?

I have checked the origin Z axes of both bodies and they are the same.

It is very confusing that depending on how you choose geometry the "Z is up" changes to "Y is up", I'm sure there is a very good reason why the Move tool behaves this way but it would be nice to be able to predict this.

Thanks for looking into this.

Best regards,

Ludo

I wanted to let you know that based on the feedback provided here and in the below thread, I have created a report for development to investigate this issue further (Reference ID FUS-16649).
