Motion Study / Animation Confusion

I've created a pretty large assembly. I've created a whole bunch of joints. I used Motion Study to time out all the movements and everything functions the way it should... but now how do I share that with a client? There isn't a way that I can see to save the Motion Study after putting forth all that effort.

Then comes animation. I know I can create an animation and share it through a link to a client. But all the joints and motion study work I have done isn't applicable there from what I can tell. So what is the point of animation? Just to get exploded views? I can't hand move every single part that needs to move while under the animation tab, that would take days. I feel like I'm either missing something, or Fusion is missing a pretty big feature that would be extraordinarily useful.

Hi Arthur,

I believe I have a really convenient solution for you! If you want to share the model directly with a client and show the motion study or animation, you can use a Live Review Session to share a link to the model and can animate it on screen with anyone in the session. This requires you to control the model and be present in the session, but if you already have the motion study and/or animation set up, all you have to do is press play!

To enable a Live Review Session, have the model open in Fusion 360, then click on the File drop-down menu at the top, and then select "Live Review Session".

From here you can use the "share this link to invite others", and anyone can join in over the web. This will allow you to present your model to your client in a powerful way!

In addition, here's a video showing how you can create a video from your motion study using the "Render" workspace. This will create a highly realistic looking video that shows the motion you set up in your motion study.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply!

Live Review Session will work for the time being, but the problem is I cannot save the motion studies. My assemblies have a whole mess of joints that all need to move at specific times. So it takes quite a bit of time to setup the motion studies. Then once I'm done, it will not save it. Next time I open Motion Study I have to start from scratch. So while that'll work to share with a client, it means I will have to set it all up prior to the live review session, and if something goes wrong, I could get stuck having to set it all up over again.

Rendering out the motion study would be exactly what I'm looking for. But Fusion will not let me render out my motion study. I don't know if this file has too many parts and joints, but that option will not even show up. I've gotten it to show up with a separate design with a simple joint. The other massive drawback there is the inability to render a motion study locally. Rendering out the motion study using their cloud credits gets expensive fast.

Here is the design I'm working on. I created the motion study, clicked okay. Went to render. Rendered the image, and then clicked on it just like the video showed, and the motion study icon isn't there....

Hi @ARTHUR-HM,

Thank you for posting! I found this forum thread which seems similar to your issue. Please take a look.

Could you try selecting Re-render and "Video", and render it? Then, check if the Motion Study button shows up?

Unfortunately this did not work. I guess I'll just throw in the towel. I don't want to waste all my cloud credits trying to get this thing to work.

I'm in the same boat.  I only have two parts to move, but I want to set up an interesting movement profile with about 20 points for each component.  Takes about 10 minutes to setup.  Even if it only took one minute to setup, I don't want to have to do it over and over each time I want to show someone.  Yes I can make a video, but then I loose the ability to interactively move around during the motion study.  Hmm.  Nice features, but only half way there.

Oops.  Just discovered that the motion study is automatically saved as an item in the project.  Awesome!

I have the same question to the autodesk administration. Why are they don't put feature of 'motion study' into 'animation' section, therefore users will be able to get more advantages in animation process and could save it.
Right now animation section is pretty obsolete, users can basically explode the assemblies and look at that from different points. But we want to be able to move a lot of joints at the same time, with some connections, like it shown in motion study. If you will improve the software in this way, fusion 360 will become fare advantageous over other CAD programs.
