Motion Beginning Question

I have never used the joints and motions features in Fusion. Normally when I make a model with many components it is simply for the generation of a drawing. If I am making a part for CAD in only has a single component.

 

What I would like to do is to make a parallelogram and slide one beam back and forth and see the height change. I made a quick model of what I would like to try. The information I am seeking could be quickly generated with a little trig in a spreadsheet but I am trying to make something more visual. Also, is there a way to see when parts collide?

 

Attached is a simple model.

For your early attempts, as you say. not so bad, 

 

I fixed 3 things to get where I think you want to be, 

Something has to be grounded when working with Components,

 

I grounded the base Bracket, 

 

I deleted the first Revolve Joint you made (Rev 3), cause it was a revolve between two arms, and you can't edit As Built joints to change components, so it had to be deleted and replaced, arm to pin.  I have hidden the duplicate arm, but you couldn't see it anyway.

 

I Edited the now first Revolve Joint in the list, Rev 4, and added Joint limits of -78 deg and 78 deg.  (eye balled)

 

You can click drag the mechanism (without capturing a new position and revering it will bounce back. I don't know why the rest position is not working, so cancelled that)

I have not done a lot of motion studies, but you could animate it there,

or just Right Click the Rev 4 and select Animate Model.

I think, but don't use them, Contact Set will stop the model colliding, if you need to go that way.

To figure out when these parts are colliding does not even take any 3D model. This can be solved with a single sketch.
