Modeling Motocycle/Dirtbikes - Design

Hello All,

I am new to the community and I am a hobbyist, I was an engineer in college. I wanted to see if anyone knew of a good resource for an introduction to modeling Motorcycles/Dirtbikes and even cars. As I do not have enough space to do engine rebuilds and changes to a real bike or Car. I think modeling those things would help me greatly with an understanding of the machine and its parts for example I would want to maybe do a 1992 Rm 125 or a 1999 Mazda Miata. I know the basics and have probably spent 100 hours using the software so I am not a beginner but I am no expert.

Are there engineering drawings that I could use to model specific parts anywhere out there? That would be a great challenge, I am not at a point and I do not yet have the knowledge to fabricate entire designs myself.

Anyone has any helpful suggestions for wear to start?

100 hours is still a beginner.  I have spent 100 hours/month for the last 3 years in Fusion and know that I am still very much a beginner.  Maybe I am slow.

I could offer some suggestions on where to start - but first it would be good to know where you are right now in your skill set.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file of your favorite project that you have completed so far to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

All of my previous work and things were done at school and it was nothing impressive, I have done follow along with tutorials and other things similar to that. The cad File that I most like was motor I found online with Solidworks, I started to struggle with combining bodies together, you will see it is a bit of a mess. This part is still a work in progress.

More so than anything else: I want to model them as a hobby because I find it difficult to find inspiration in other areas. I am looking for guides and information to do the modeling accurately so that I can later do it in parallel with car rebuilds that is the long term goal. I want to get away from the follow-along videos and books. The question is how and where to start so I don't become overwhelmed.

I looked at your model and found one easy improvement you can made in your modeling workflow.  I explained it and gave you a better solution in the Screencast.

You want to start, so there are a Plenty of courses on Autodesk Design Academy.

Your suggestion is a perfect place to go to get started but the original poster made a comment, shown above, that is going to catch him at every turn UNLESS he has a one-on-one tutor.  He is looking for that magic hat he can put on and learn Fusion 360 through osmosis.

@jhackney1972 Thank you! I will implement this immediately, that was something as I was getting further into my part that becomes more and more difficult to deal with.

Thanks you again!
