Model Sketch

Man there are major issues with model sketching!
Seriously someone needs to actually try using it. It is total garbage!

Just try drawing some letters free hand using splines, lines and arcs. It is frustratingly FUBAR!

How do you turn off auto projection? Also how to turn off spline handle preview on selection "it is annoying enough to make a person want to shoot the monitor with a full clip of 45 hollow points"

With all selection filters off but sketch entity's it still selects body edges and tries to project! "For the love of god!"

Then there is the copy function! It literally brakes things during copy! And for gods sake put a copy selection on the move/copy pop out! Other wise just called "Move" not "Move/Copy".

Just try using it, there is no way yea cannot see the thing is FUBAR

Please tell me someone is working on it!

When you're done with your rant, maybe you can share your model, or what you have so far, share some more details of what end result you're looking for and also provide a screencast so we can see how the software fails you. In general I would not that Fusion 360's sketch engine is more aimed towards traditional CAD and If you want to do vector graphics stuff it might be easier to to that with a dedicated app and import a .scg, or .dxf.

Did you even read the rant? Or just blow it off as ignorance?
I assure you it is not. Seriously JUST TRY USING IT.
Drawing simple block letters with an occasional spline is about like pulling teeth with it. Create a simple sketch and try drawing a few lines of text for yourself. It should be obvious, if not then you have no business answering the question

That is just using Fusion 360. I have been using Fusion 360 for almost 3 years now and have been using CAD for almost 30. Yes I read your rant. I asked you to share more details. You respond with a post that indicates your rant is still not over. Once its over maybe we can get on with business.

Not sure how much more info yea need.
If it makes it any better just add lib unicorn and rainbow back ground music and read it in monotone. Sorry if my colorful disposition is distracting.
I know it is broken and needs fixing! Anyone worth there salt would see the many issues with it. I was just wondering if it was a work in progress for the next update.

I don't know why you're having so much trouble creating a font.  I made a screencast of my very first attempt at it and didn't have too much trouble Smiley Happy  Perhaps you too could share a screencast of how you're creating a font.

Hi,

Could you share a picture of the font you're trying to achieve

As @TrippyLighting said, we need more details about what you want to do, most of the people posting in the forums don't attach anything and just rely on words, so for us to help you my friend please attach some files

Regards

Saeed

I was able to create what I needed but noticed a lot of things that were very... well flaky with the sketching in 360.

What I am doing is sketch tracing an image that has been placed as a decal onto a solid. What I am looking for is simple line's that I can trace in CAM for engraving. The actual features engraved will be very small.

Below you can see the original Decal image below the Sketch.

1911_Slide-sw2 sc2.jpg

In the picture below you can see even with the selection filters set to sketch components only it still tries to project body edges.

1911_Slide-sw2 sc3.jpg

With all selection filters off it still tries to use sketch component prediction.

1911_Slide-sw2 sc4.jpg

Below is the Move/Copy dialog! With the elusive Copy ability. Sure you can CTRL-C but why not add a check box on the dialog to copy as well?

1911_Slide-sw2 sc5.jpg

When doing a CTRL-C copy... This is the letter B consisting of two splines and strait lines.

1911_Slide-sw2 sc6.jpg

This is a zoomed in shot of the vertex between the line and the spline.

1911_Slide-sw2 sc8.jpg

This is the copied version? With an anomaly added. It seems to be dropping control point parameters or something during the copy process

1911_Slide-sw2 sc7.jpg

Would be nice to have the ability to turn off point prediction snapping and auto constraint creation. Most of the time it is great but it can also be a major pain in the rear end.

1911_Slide-sw2 sc9.jpg

There are other irritating and flaky little things as well but It is really not my job.... I am not getting payed to debug UI for Autodesk. Even though I am a huge fan.
Was just hoping someone was looking into fixing it up as 360 is an awesome tool.

Trying to do that sort of stuff with the sketch engine of a CAD application, particularly Fusion 360 is like pulling teeth.

I doubt we will see any vector graphics functionality in the sketch engine any time soon. Unfortunately!

Your best bet is to create this in a vector graphics application, maybe Gravit Designer or Inkscape and then import that into Fusion 360 as a .dxf or .svg file.

On the other hand, it would be trivial to just use a built-in font.

Hold down CTRL (Cmd on Mac) to suppress constraint inferencing while drawing sketch curves.  But, you will have to let up on CTRL in order to infer coincident (to close the shape, or connect to another line).

Thank You Jeff!
That makes Tracing things a ton easier!

I thought about that for the text but didn't really like the Generic font. I actually used the Text feature before to do engraving on another project and that worked well.
This one because it has a simple artistic pattern I just figured I would sketch them out free hand to give it a more hand crafted look. It was a good exercise in testing out the capability of sketching in 360.

I tried doing an image trace in Inkscape as well as an online Image to cad converter but it really wasn't producing what I was looking for. They seem to want to trace around every feature, and that really is not needed. I just need simple lines so I can trace it in 360 CAM. That way I can control the width of the engraved line by the tool depth.
I was just surprised at how fluky the sketching is.
