mirror a component

I am working on a design for a table saw jig and I want to mirror the component I have created for the left side of the jig to make the right side.  The other forum entries I can find on this subject indicate that it is not possible to mirror a component but the feature being worked on and is coming.  There work arounds suggested but they are still work arounds.  As those post ar several month old now, is there any update?  In addition it would be very helpful if you can rename the resulting component, for expample if the component named "left side" is the origional, you should be able to name the result as "right side".  Any guidance on when this will be available?

You can mirror bodies within the component, and select multiple bodies to mirror at once. They will end up within the same component, but you can then make a subcomponent and move these bodies into it. So with a little forethought about how components work in Fusion you should be able to accomplish your goal.  More awkward than if you could just select the component  to mirror, but workable.

  • Make jig master component, create one side.
  • Select Mirror, with bodies option selected, and select the bodies you want to mirror (I find this easiest to do selecting from the browser rather than in the drawing) and the plane to morror around.
  • When you have the mirrored bodies, select one and “Create component from bodies”.
  • Drag the other bodies that belong in the component into it, rename it “Left Side”, or….

You could do the same for the right side, and end up with a master component, “Jig”, with a Right and Left subcomponents.

I beleive I have followed your suggestions properly.  I have a component I call "sides" and in that component I create a body that represents the left side. I mirror that body to create a body that represents the right side.   I create two sub components in "Sides", one called "Left Side" and the other called "Right Side" and drag the appropriate bodies into them.  At some point in this process the two bodies loose their link to one another.  Further changes in the body in "Left Side" do not result in changes to the body in "Right Side".  This is not the behavior I am seeking.  I want the two bodies to maintain their link.  It is possible I am doing something that causes the two bodies to loose their link, but I do not see what it might be.

I may have steered you a little wrong.

Trying this here I see that the links do appear to break when I put the original bodies into a new component as a subcomponent of the original. Up until I do that the links are intact.

What I did try- and this worked for me- was to instead of creating a component from a body as I suggested (thus becoming a sub-component of the original), to create a new empty component from the root of the browser (right mouse on the top component) and then copy the new bodies into that empty component. This gives two components at the same level , your original and the new one, that have links intact.
