mesh section not working

Hi, I'm trying to do a mesh section, but fusion will not let me select a mesh body, I've tried restarting and loading another mesh, but no joy. Any suggestions?

Kind regards Conor

It should just work. Can you upload a sample mesh, you might need to zip it before you can upload.

Mark

Edit. One thought are all your selection filters enabled?

The forum seems super slow with uploads again so you might struggle attaching a mesh file.

Hi Mark, I've exported a basic cube out of rhino and that works fine, then I've pasted one of the meshes (from Zbrush) into this design and I can still select the rhino file, but I can't select the one from Zbrush. I haven't had any problems with Zbrush files in the past. I've attached a test file.

Kind regards Conor

If i right click the mesh and select Triangulate Mesh it works so perhaps the mesh section tool only works with triangular meshes.

@conorBreen

I just tried your file and it is working fine for me.

Not sure why it will not work for you.

@HughesTooling

I didn't have to triangulate the mesh.

@conorBreen

Check your selection filters.

Thanks triangulating the mesh worked, its strange though as I haven't had this problem before and I use files from Zbrush regularly. I checked my selection settings and everything is selected.

Thanks again.

@conorBreen

The problem with triangulating the mesh is it becomes almost useless in Fusion once you triangulate it.

This is something the dev team should look at just in case you have encountered a bug.

@PhilProcarioJr Were you able to select it with Create Mesh Section, I've tried with both my PCs at work and can't select until the mesh is triangulated. All my selection filters are enabled.

Its very strange, I have two meshes in the same design and I can select one with mesh section but not the other. I'm working on a mac, I don't know if that has any baring on it

@conorBreen

Can you make a screencast of what your doing so I can see?

Also if these came from Zbrush you should use the remesher because these are way denser then needed. If you do that you can bring them in as T-Splines and you will have full control over the models in CAD at that point.

Just a suggestion.

@HughesTooling

Create mesh section doesn't work with infinitly thin meshes without triangulation. (Although I think the biggest issue is non-planar faces.)

They need to have some sort of thickness or planar faces, but still triangulating the mesh to create a mesh section is the hard way to be doing this and leaves a lot of room for errors and less accurate models.

It's fine if @conorBreen wants to work that way but then I would have to ask why use a CAD app at all if you don't care about accuracy?

Also if you have Zbrush you eliminate the need for the mesh space in Fusion altogether. I guess that is the real point I am trying to make here.
