Merge faceted faces?

I have imported an stl file and wanted to convert the mesh to an editable parametric item. But because I am a hobbyist I haven't got the option to use prismatic. If I convert it I seem to have problems trying to merge the faceted faces. Is there a way of doing this?

This is a very simple model, you would be much better off just to model it for in the Fusion 360 modeling environment.  Even if you had a Fusion 360 Subscription license, it cannot be converted to a Prismatic form.  You can used the Delete command under Modify in the Mesh Environment to remove the faces but you will still only have a single body.  I have done this to see if it suits, model is attached.

Yes thanks for your quick response. I kept the model simple to make it easier for me to comprehend a solution. I did remodel this by using prepare>face groups> then measuring the relevant faces to get my dimensions. With this model I wanted to cut a 2mm section the lenght (20mm) of the blade. When I converted the mesh  to faceted I had about 10 triangular faces which I assumed I could merge into one face to edit on or create a plane on the face. But when I try this there are no existing faces to select... can you think a a fairly quick solution to acheive this?

I have just done as you described and I think this will work out fine as it enables me to use the original stl mesh to create a sketch on the faces once the facets are deleted. Cheers...

I open your Cat Track JRH model and used the convert mesh>base feature as you did but I presume the one you converted used the prismatic option as you have the commercial version. Only because the faces in your converted model are complete whereas mine are faceted. Is there an easy way to select all the faceted faces at once instead of individually? If I drag over a couple of faces it automatically select the whole model.

Oh that is interesting. I have just noticed that you only have to delete one facet from any face even if there are multiple facets and if you select the face again all the remaining facets have gone and you can add a sketch to the exitsing face.
