Measure tool loop length

When I select a face which is a quarter of a cylinder using the measure tool it reports the radius, diameter and area which all make sense. Radius is 226mm, diameter is 452mm. Since the height is 45mm (which it does not tell me) it gets the area correct at 1.597E+04.

It also tells me that the loop length is 800mm but I am at a loss to work out what this actually means.

Can someone please enlighten me.

I think it's the total curve length on the surface

452 x Pi / 4 

x 2 

+ 45 x 2 = 800mm loop length

It's the length of the face "border".
