Managing Multiple Parts Created From a Base Design

Is there a way to create multiple different models that all reference a single original model file?  However, the goal is to have all of the new designs not impact the original, while updates to the original can impact all the various designs.

Hopefully that makes some sense, and I can try to rephrase it if it does not.  This something I've always wondered with F360 but until now did not absolutely need the functionality.  Presently I have a "base file" (in this case a console) that there will then be eight or so different configurations of.  Ideally each of those configs would still be updated by changes to the original if for whatever reason it needs to be tweaked later down the road.

Copy/paste doesn't seem to do the trick, importing a design means that changes to the new file apply to the original, unlinking said design makes them fully independent, and the branch/merge functionality doesn't quite make sense since I never intend to merge the designs.

Does this sort of functionality exist in F360 and I've just overlooked it, or is this not currently possible?  Thanks.

Is "Insert Derive" the base part to the new part? After you changed the base part, the new part can be updated automatically.

Thanks,

Steven

Have you looked into Insert Derive? It doesn't replace configuration feature of other CAD software but in some cases can suffice for making a new part from another design without affecting the source.

Thank you both Steven and Hamid, that is exactly what I was looking for.  I knew it surely had to exist, I just couldn't find it.  Thank you again for the help.
