making a revolute joint with a smooth loft

I'm trying to join the edge of a flat panel to a lofted body with a revolute joint so that the panel rotates around the edge, as if there were a hinge there. The lofted body has an appropriate edge.

I can select the center of the edge on the panel, but I cannot seem to select the edge on the loft! No marks are shown, or they are well on the other side of the main body and the panel rotates into very weird positions when the joint is made. How can I either select the center of the side of the lofted body or add something to it so that the joint lines up properly?

Place a joint origin on the edge,  

if you can’t snap to the edge midpoint, - there are no sketches at the point,

then create a Plane on Path, Project > Intersect the edge.

Place joint origin on that sketch point.

I was attempting to pre-position the panel. Can I delete them without screwing up the joint?
