Making a drawing from sketch

Hi,

I just made a Section analysis > Intersection of a 3D model and as result I got a Sketch. Now I want to make a drawing from it and add some dimensions. How to do this ? When I try to switch the workspace from Model to drawing nothing happens after I select the sketch to be used.Untitled 8.jpg

You can't create a drawing from a sketch.  You have to have geometry to create the drawing.  Just select the component you want in the drawing, do a section analysis, then dimension.

Of course you can make drawing from sketch. You should proceed as usual to make drawing: when you have sketch in desing, then go to "make drawing from desing". You choose the base view. At the beggining you'll see nothing, but then you just have to mark a lightbulb and display sketches from a list on the left

This thread is a couple of years old and back then you could not make a sketch visible in a drawing. Even now if you make a sketch visible it will have a dot dash phantom line type so might not be a lot of use to most people.

This is a really old thread now. But you can make a drawing from a sketch with solid lines. You have to change a line type in the document settings. Do the following Document Settings > Annotation > Sketches > Line Type - change to continuous.

Hi,

Creating a Drawing from a Sketch completely defeates the purpose of Modeling.

Your workflow should be, create a simple sketch, use the tools to model the part, then use the part to create

the drawing. Since you are using the actual part in the drawing, you can then use the drawing tools to get your

various dimensions and cross sections. They will be precise and accurate. A fully defined sketch "should" also

be precise and accurate but it is only a picture, a modelled part can be created but pictures sometimes cannot.

The link that @Beyondforce has provided is the official Fusion documentation and is  an excellent place to get

up to speed with how to create drawings and other stuff.

The Fusion drawing package is powerful and useful and it is well worth learning, it makes creating drawings very

quick, easy and precise. The other Fusion tools also use the model and Gcode can be directly generated for CNC

or 3D printing. I don't think it is possible to do this with a Sketch.

What you want to do is use the model you have, import that into the drawing, then do a section of the model using

the drawing tools. This process is explained in the documentation link you have been provided with.

Cheers

And yet I have a situation where I NEED to create a drawing from a sketch.  Sometimes you have to play the hand that you're dealt.

I am in the same boat. I just want to export the sketches as DXF files for laser cutting. But in need to put them in a proposal drawing first. Here is a tutorial.

  • 1.1. Use the “Sketch Tool”
  • 1.2. Apply constraints
  • 1.3. Add dimensions
  • 1.4. Exit the sketch area
  • 1.5. Add parameters to your sketch
  • 1.6. Extrude the sketch

Seems like a lot of steps to get to the "export the sketch" phase. Hey, it's free.

Cheers,

Phil

re-read the thread.  this post is ages old and things have changed.  sketches can be placed directly into the drawing environment now for printing without the extra steps.

None of these worked. I just screenshot it and saved it to desktop. Then I went to drawings and pressed the insert image button at the top.

*A tip for screenshot go to design settings and turn off constraints and points. MAkes the screenshot look nicer.

Why are you all so whiney about giving this information. I need a sketch with a title block for a school project.
