Making a bolt head

I am having trouble making a bolt head. I found the hex method, but I am trying to reproduce a way where I could pick the number of sides.

I appear to be missing some steps;

1) After making a circle I used sketch to make 3 separate lines in the circle making a triangle.

2) I was told to select a line then click on Normal/Construction and something about going from the origin to the circle edge?

3) ???

4) Select sketch then circular pattern, pick outer line? on circle and center point

5) Pick quantity and number of sides

And now one should have a hex if 6 sides were picked or whatever if other number of sides picked. I seem to fail after Normal/Construction step.

Why not just use the polygon sketch tool?

Here's one way to make a parameterized polygon:

A seven sided bolt head would make a nice security bolt Smiley Tongue

Personally, when it comes to drawing bolt heads, I'm kind of lazy and just import the correct size bolt from McMasterCarr...

The head is not 6 sided but has 5 sides.

I tried to follow the video but could not read what you were clicking on, it was too small and a bit blurry. But I appreciate the post and effort - thanks.

Being new to this, and being old (70's), I had no idea about importing. I will have to check this out, I agree it seems simpler, if they have odd bolts. I was trying to make a 5 sided bolt head.

Again, thanks.

The sketch polygon tool lets you change the number of sides. Would that not do what you need?

The sketch polygon tool would be the best tool to use but you can't change the number of sides with a parameter after it has been created.

Being very new to this, I don't seem to be able to figure out how to change the number of side. Could you please expand on the steps when you get a chance - no hurry, I am just leaning.

Also to bring up another feature that does not seem to work for me is making a Pipe. I have seen a few videos and the windows that pop up for them don't for me. Specifically this link to a youtube video::   https://getpocket.com/a/read/1659668751  I get the box but no Path can be selected like his video showed, I seem to just get a rectangle in color that goes away when the mouse is released. (Note: it really is an MacBook Pro, if that matters and not a mouse.)

Turn on your sound (and you can expand the window by clicking on the arrows in lower right corner).

For your second question:
Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?
And also, indicate the time step in the YouTube video that you are referring to.
