Machining over holes

Hello,

I've attached a little video of some parts that we are making. the parts are coming out fine but we were wondering if there was a feature in the software that would ignore holes and make the software think there is material still there.

the problem that we are having is when you pre drill all the through holes in the part, then you go back and machine the part. the software thinks that there is absolutely no material at those spots. this ends up changing the tool path and causing the cutter to mill straight into these areas. If you have your sound up for the video you will hear the very loud sound it makes when it cuts into the part.

This happened on another part of ours that where we had a 1/8 hole drilled. we then went in with a 1 inch cuter and it plowed full diameter in thinking there was no material at that spot. Luckily it didn't break the cutter but it did bog the machine down for a second then came right back out.

if anyone has any solution to this problem we would very much appreciate it. maybe there is something in the software but we are just skipping over it.

I would need to see your part. it could be the way your defining rest machining, defining your stock contours, or you could just need to cap the holes.

Hi Travis -

Since the CAM data is included as part of the Fusion document, just exporting the .f3d file is sufficient for this.

Hi Travis, something useful I came across is patching holes before performing CAM, as shown in this vid at around 1:50

Good luck!
