Okay so I'm a regular user and this hasen't happened since the beginning.. I left my computer and came back to find it had crashed. Not sure why.. Anyways worked online all day with many many autosaves. Cannot get my days work back. It last shows that I worked only yesterday with no new versions since then?? I know there are files hidden somewhere on this computer. Does anyone know where they might be and also why none of the versions of today ended up being saved online?? I really need help here 10+ hours of work here.. Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

Sorry this happened to you.  On Windows we store our Autosave files here:  C:\Users\<your windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<some random letters and numbers>\CrashRecovery.  On the Mac we store it here:

/Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360/<some random letters and numbers>/CrashRecovery.  What should happen is when you reopen Fusion 360, it should prompt you that there are auto recovery files available and allow you to recover them.  You should also be prompted when you try and open a file that has an auto recovery file available.  Let me know if there is anything more I can do to help you.

Thank you,

Hey thank you! I found only one.. But it's better than nothing... I will only lose a few 3 hours of work.. It does not prompt me to open it. Do I rename it and try putting it onto my desktop to open?

Hi again.. Can you tell me how to open it? This is the worse problem a program like this can have. When the program is autosaving where are they all going? To the hard drive only? The program is currently not giving me prompts for the recovery side of things so we need to hack this file and open it up.. Do I rename it and open it from the desktop?

Hi @Anonymous,

The first thing I would do is copy everything from the CrashRecovery folder to another location on your hard drive.  Once you have copied it, inside the copied folder there is a xml file called AutoSavedFileList.xml.  Open that file, the "Name" field will tell you which file the .backup file is mapped to.  I would then rename it to the original filename and then within Fusion360 go to the data panel and select "Import New Version" and select the renamed file.  Hopefully this will allow you to get some of your data back.

To answer your question on autosave, yes unfortunately when you autosave, it only saves to your local disk.

Good luck and let me know if I can help you in any way.

Okay so I did it a little different. Yes saved a version of it to an external harddrive just in case there is something wrong with my computer. Then I renamed it as an F3D file and uploaded it from the desktop into fusion then opened up a new design and inserted it into the new design.. Weewh.. Now I broke the link and everything back to normal! Thank you sooo much ! So riddle me this.. Throughout the day when I close out of the program to take breaks when do the files actually upload to the cloud as versions?  The program showed nothing from today that I could access?

Hi @Anonymous,

I am glad you were able to salvage some of your work.  Every time you save a file (using the Save command) it should upload the file to the cloud.  If you are seeing different behavior can you send me your logs?  In order to retrieve your logs you should go to the help menu (the one with the ?) and then select the "Diagnostic Log Files" command.  You can send the log zip file to me ([email protected]) and I will investigate.

Thank you,

Hi,

yesterday I was working offline on fusion360. After completion of my work I saved my work and closed Fusion360. It got crashed I guess. Today when I opened my file, it prompted me for auto recovery option. I accidentally clicked the "NO" option and I lost all my yesterday's work. So please help me to get back that auto recovery file. The file is not visible in the "Recover documents" option.

Thanks in advance.

Here is a screenshot of the location of backup files. Copy one to desktop and rename it as a .f3d file. Then upload it into fusion.

I've got the same problem. However, in the crash recovery folder there is only one backup file which is something I was working on months ago and not the work I lost yesterday. The project I was working on shows the last save as 6 days ago. I'm not entirely sure how much work I've done on it since then but did at least 4 hours yesterday that I can't seem to get back. Please help! I really don't want to have to start again.
