Nobody tell my wife, but I'm trying to make a bowl set for her which sits in something that looks like a contour map. Here's an example of the kinds of contours I'm after.
I've been throwing my head against the wall trying to get a lumpy, topographic-looking form cut into flat layers with straight edges. So I'm here looking for suggestions.
I've tried coming at the problem from two ends. 1) I'm able to make a sample representation of what I'd like in Blender, but I've not had any luck getting Fusion to convert that mesh into a T-Spline body. I'm using boolean modifiers in Blender and it generates enough triangles that Fusion won't touch it. I've tried Instant Meshes, but that makes a mess of the mesh while trying to make quads.
I can bring my lumpy topographic blob (before I section it into contour layers) into Fusion OK. I can then make a pile of layers and split them using my topographic blob. The problems with this are, the edges of the contour aren't straight up and down. They fit to the blob, so you lose the cool stair step effect I'm going for, unless you project the bottom of each layer and cut them. For 15 layers, I'll need to do this 15 times every time I play with the topographic blob. That sounds like a chore!
Any thoughts on how to make a more manageable workflow to create what I'm after?
Thanks!
