Loft Shape Process

Hi guys just getting used to different lofting methods and Im struggling to come up with a process for developing the shape of the form attached. Maybe lofting isn't the appropriate way to create this form? I can cut the grooves out fine it's just getting the overall form that im struggling with!

Loft should handle that easy.  For the bottom compound curve, over build the front face and trim the bottom off.
