Loft problem

Hello!

I've got a problem with loft rails intersections with profiles. I've tried to do a basic bottle shape with sculpt function and tried to add some additional features. I didn't manage to get even tangent between middle intersection lines and a shape profile (spline). I have now found a couple of times times, that there is some problems with loft intersections. I published my bottle file; http://a360.co/1SiH7nv

Hi @0502880

I was able to get a surface by sweeping the bottom curve along two path curves that I created by intersecting the two bottle bodies with the curved surfaces you used to create the offsets.

I selected to bottom curve and used the two intersection curves as a path and guide rail.

The Loft tool should have been able to make this surface but we have determined that there is a bug in the Loft tool that is perventing it from working.

Hope that helps,

Ok. Did you try to get a tangent constraint between the middle shape splines and existing two construction lines? I didn't manage to do that. I tried to achieve a smooth (filleted) surface between those two bodies. Now there is a sharp edge.

Hi @0502880

I didn't get fancy with the curves, I was more concerned with getting the loft tool to work.  There is a bug logged for this, it turns out to be a tolerance issue.

Of course you set continuity on the curves, or you could leave it sharp and then fillet/variable fillet the edges.

This form of the bottle should to be easy to model using several methods but I came across problems at every turn, to create a body that could be filleted.

I did manage to do it and made a screencast showing how. Although I was not successful while doing the screencast, that is how I did it earlier and got good results.

This is an excellent project to show several problems with the software. Highly recommend that the programers give it a shot. Try out all the ways that should work. Much will be revealed.

Note: for a successful execution of this model, I had to widen the gap between the two parts: I used two splines on a sketch to split the bodies. Delete the unwanted bits. I cut the bottle in half. .... I did a new 3D sketch and did a solid loft. Mirror and combine. The fillet worked fine (no need for a variable fillet). Good luck. The screencast is highly edited, it's enough to show the idea.

Thank's! I also supposed, that the loft will be done with some extra "tricks". It's also sometimes extremely hard to get spline intersections work with loft, let's hope that the loft function will be improved ASAP. It's anyway very important tool with complex shapes. And it's not always comfortable to define exact shaped surfaces only with T-Splines Modify functions...
