Loft problem with rails - surely already asked dozens of time, but one more here

Hi,

I want to make a loft surface with the 3 profiles profil 1, 2 and 3, and 2 rails.
With every profile, i did :
sketch->project/include->intersect, to get a point on the rail 1 and rail 2 living on the plane of each profile. I added a coincidence constraint with the curve of the profile i.
So, all should work, but it don't. I already spent hours to retrieve the problem.
Where is my error ?
Tx a lot for your help.

Hi,

The profiles 1, 2, 3 and the rails 1 and 2 havent't any problem, in my version.

Btw, when I try to open the f3d you joined, I get a "Opening of local files is not supported".

1. Are you sure about that?  You don't see any yellow highlight boxes on your sketches in your timeline?  Can you post a screenshot of your timeline?

2. File>New Design From File and browse to where you downloaded my example.

I tested your file, Patch Loft worked 1st time,

You will have trouble further along, and one rail self intersects

Sorry cant help any further.

Here is a v2.

I retrieved a missing plane in the v1, and I cleaned too the profile 1.

So, now, there are no more yellow palette in the time line.

But I don't succeed to create this loft. How have you done it in your version ?

About the rail 2, I checked it, to avoid any auto-intersection.

If you zoom on it, you will see that the 2 branches are very close (about 0.002 mm), but are not intersecting.

The rail 1 istn't ambiguous, about self-intersecting.

And my loft don't work anymore with one rail Smiley Frustrated (tx for the tip of patch, I worked with model screen)

Tx a lot, but what have you done, to create the loft ?

What have you modified in my file, to make Fusion 360 working, when I desesperately don't ?

I can't speak for your end, maybe a screencast your end will show us why,

your file was down loaded, opened, and I had to orbit around a bit to see what is here, what you want, was fairly obvious, so went into patch mode,

selected Loft tool, and selected p2 and p3, and got a preview, so selected one rail, preview was happy, selected second rail, preview was still happy, so cancelled that one.

Started again with p1,p2, p3, rail, rail, preview adjusted for each selection, with out errors, saved and sent my first post.

I made no edits to your file, as said it worked for me first time.

Loft is finicky, that's why I checked the file with just two profiles first, from your post I was expecting a missing connection, but I have learned to test with two profiles, and all rails before building more profiles.  It's my sanity checker.  I have been where you are, knew **** well that are all connected.

Having said that, open my file, click to edit loft, and you can test the selections I have made by deleting the last rail and reselecting.

The only other thing to check, is "Chain Select" box,

I don't remember if it was ticked or open. This sometimes makes the difference, don't think it mattered though.

(Windows 10)

My comment about the rail shape was first impression, not examined, sorry bout that, and you have that part sorted.

Sounds like both files should be tested at AD.

keep us posted with your results

Browny.

Hi,

I redid all my design ( I thought that the intersection between the 3 curves going at the profile 1 wasn't clear).

And I tested with just 2 profiles (1 and 2).

As you said, loft is pretty finicky. But perhaps also a bit weird.

With 2 profiles, that didn't work.

I isolated every curve, creating an intersection point with each rail, then hiding each rail, to get the good purple point of intersection in the profile 1 sketch.

Nothing was working at first.

But just entering into the loft :

 -profile 1

 - rail 1

 -rail 2

 - profile 2

then I get a loft.

Entering

 - profile 1

 - profile 2

 - rail 1

 -rail 2

that don't work .... as you said, loft is finisky.

I go on with my design, crossing fingers that now, the profiles 3 and ... 14 will give something.

As I said, I redid all the design, but profiles 3 to 14 have to be redesigned.

(the file i sent just isolated my problem, with the 2 rails, and only 3 profiles)

Tx a lot your reply, and your help. I really appreciate it.
