Live Update - How does that work ?

I initially downloaded the Mac App Store vesion but then deleted it and installed the version from the Autodesk website. I posted a quesions in respect to the installation location and the term "live update" was mentioned in the conversation.

How do these work ?

Is there some user inteaction required for the update or asked differently how would a user know that the software has been live updated, for example with a hot fix that was promised to remedy a problem ?

Hi,

Lets say update was just released.

If You run Fusion You will see Updating... percentage" on the very top of the Fusion window.

This indicates the update is being downloaded, it takes a while depending on the speed of the internet connection.

After it runs to 100% the update is done.

The version number could be verified in the About box.

You can ask on this forum whether the specific problem was fixed in the particular version. We will do our best to help You.

The intent with live or automatic updates is to make sure that you have the latest software and as a user you don't have to manage updates or data migration.  There are two type of automatic updates we do.  Simpler updates (bug fixes, workflow enchancements etc. which does not require a database schema change for example) will be transparent to you.  You can continue working as the software is updating.  Bigger updates with major functionality changes will require you to update and restart the client app before you can continue working.

For simpler updates you will have notifications in product that the software is being updated.  Once the software is updated the build number in the about box will also change.  For major updates the update will require you to stop working.

On whether a specific bug is being addressed in an update we don't have an automated way of notifying.  We will update this forum.   Let us know if you would like it to be handled differently.

Let us know if you need more information.

Thanks,

Prabakar.

Aha...

I had reported a problem related to Joint Constraints and moving parts into assemblies that constantly lead to carshes. It was discussed in this thread that a hotfix may be released to fix the problem

Yesterday I encountered another oddity with joint constraints and posted about it and provide a link to a video explaining the situation in this thread. When I openerd the fle this morning - I had done that several times least night and the errors persisted - the file opened and several of the errors had mysteriosly corrected themselves.

I am wondering if that could be the result of a "transparent" bufg fix update. Just to be clear, there is nothing wong with that.

Hi Trippy,

For the type of issues you are talking about it would require an update to Fusion which is outlined above.  We haven't pushed out the hotfix update yet so it wasn't a transparent bug fix from us 🙂

I am glad to hear things are working again, something that may be happening is that certain operations inside of Fusion can trigger a Compute All.  Depending on the error or failure that you are seeing, some of these small issues can be resolved during the Compute All.

Cheers,
