Thanks @Anonymous

For your report, I logged another bug against this behavior. I found that the other bug reports do not cover the alternate desktop scenario. So when we do fix this, we'll know all the cases. Thanks for giving us one more case to check/fix for.

This has been a long standing issue, as many long time users can attest to. I can say that we are working on this now, but there is no ETA for a fix. We understand it clearly, it's just that there are technical limitations, due to long standing dependencies, we are currently only now able to solve.

Sorry for all the trouble and thank you all for patience with this issue.

Thanks to an awesome teammate, I have this article to present:

http://www.cnet.com/news/keep-applications-from-stealing-focus-when-opening-in-os-x/

Caution: Use the advice in this article at your own risk. CNET gives solid advice, but I have not tested these solutions. Good luck!

Hi @Phil.E,

I have tried this method before, but unfortunately, it doesn't work with Fusion. Sad, but true, some programs just like to "grab" focus.

Is good that you know and take note from this issue, and is perfectly understandable that some cases are above the technical and time limitations.

The only thing: please don't forget to take in consideration this issue (as many others), as soon as you have the resorces to do so.

Absolutely we will. This is a high priority for us and we think we now finally have the right tools to iron it all out. Time will tell, but we aren't done trying to fix it yet!

Thanks,

I'm also experiencing this issue with Mac OS Monterey, Fusion 360 version 2.0.12392. Super annoying as the normally hovering menu items such as browser, data panel, navigation etc are randomly moved to another desktop especially when moving F360 window to another desktop, when creating a new desktop or when returning to the computer after it's been locked. Very poor GUI implementation and sometimes it's affecting the UX so heavily that I can't use the application at all.

Same for me on Mac OS Ventura 13.4.1 (Intel). I don't use Fusion in full screen, but it remains the same.

This problem was reported back in 2016 (!) and still is annoying people! Why does nobody care about it?

This issue is still present in 2023 (not using full screen). Is this being addressed?

To be clear, you are reporting that Fusion will take focus when you are working on two monitors?

@Phil.E
I did have the problem while using two virtual screens besides each other, not two separate monitors. And it did not happen all the time, so it was really not easy to reproduce. What I can say is that one of the last Fusion updates solved the problem with the browser disappearing permanently when changing the screens, at least for me. So maybe this has solved the jumping toolbar/browser problem for now, too.

@meqira17
I thought about to not comment on this at all, but cnr... I think, this is ridiculous at least! Not a single software on earth is "perfect" and you know nothing about the condition of my Mac.

Brand new MacBook Pro M2 running the newest OS

Dual or virtual monitors, Fusion loses explore bar. It makes it literally impossible to use the tree.

4 of 4 Macs since 2014 have been doing this.

No, simply working in a different space on the same monitor. (M2 MacBook Pro, MacOS 13.6).

Shifting away from the space that Fusion is running in in some cases causes various interface menus to become separated from the main window and move to a random other space. On returning to Fusion, the disconnected menu window is somehow considered primary and focus will be grabbed by the menu immediately taking me away from the space Fusion is running in. This means I can't even access the main Fusion interface to close which ever tool is causing the issue, try to reset the interface, or even quit Fusion gracefully.  I believe this happens most notably if the machine has gone to sleep with a tool menu open. I'll make a small screen cast when I have a moment.

This is one of the many "just restart the program to make it work properly" issues I've had with Fusion.

I'm having this issue as well (on my brand new M1 Macbook Pro running MacOS 14 Sonoma (the latest MacOS version)).

Is there a way to mark this as "not solved". I'm concerned this may not be getting the attention it deserves because it is marked as solved.

I'm experiencing the same set of issues on MacOS Sonoma 14.5 (23F79).

Setup: Fusion was opened while connected to two external monitors. I worked for an hour, saved everything, unplugged the other screens, closed the laptop, and walked out to the garage/shop.

Upon reopening, the Fusion windows had scattered themselves across multiple "desktops". The "browser" and "comments" windows were on desktop 1, and the main fusion window was on desktop 2 (again, no multi-monitor at this point). I went to adjust one of my arrangements in a manufacturing model. When I clicked to edit the arrangement, my focus was shifted to desktop 3, which had no visible fusion windows. I tried using Mission Control to find the windows and there was nothing there. I tried cycling between windows of the same application using the CMD+` (tilde key) shortcut, but there were no other fusion windows. I tried minimizing fusion and re-opening it (which often works), but it failed. Hiding and unhiding also failed.

At that point, I decided to try using stage manager to cycle between active windows, and then fusion crashed. This only cost me ~15 minutes of work, so it's not a huge deal.
