joint command will not allow selection to be made

Hello , I am trying to do a joint on a handle and trying to select the handle first but when I try to select as first selection handle goes ghost or opaque and will not allow me to select . I need handle to revolve around bolt that holds it in place

The handle was made in sculpt mode  so not sure if that may be causing problem

I did a screen-cast 35 minutes ago and am still awaiting approval from the porn review dept

Why is there a screen-cast setup if I can not include it until after I have already figured out problem for myself .

Using this forum is becoming a waste of time

 FINALLY < FINALLY < FINALLY !!!!!

The porn dept has gotten their hands out of their pants and stopped watching all the uploaded porn and has Finally reviewed my screen cast and approved it .. YEE HA !!!

You cannot join bodies, only components. Please review the Assemble section in the Learning resources. It takes a little digging to find this part of the documentation explainingg the difference between bodies and components in Fusion 360.

Thanks for posting a screencast! That is definitely helpful in identifying problems.

Perhaps also keep posts in this Forum at a somewhat professional level 😉

Thanks , I found out the hard way as a last resort when nothing else worked I changed handle body to component .

I'm going to submit a Idea in Submit Ideas forum for Tool Tips to be editable that way I can put something like "--

""  Remember to change body to a component before doing joint like last time """

Thanks for your help

You should actually not be doing that. It is a workflow that is not optimal when working with components. There are workflows where creating a body from a component is useful (strictly top-down with skeleton sketches, for example) , but in your case you should be following

Fusion 360 R.U.L.E #1
When in doubt, before doing anything, create a component and make sure it's activated.
All objects created after activating the component such as sketches, bodies, construction geometry, joint origins, etc.  are created in that component.

This has several advantages:

  1. On activation the timeline is filtered to show only those items in the timeline that pertain to that component. That will make the quickly growing timeline much easier to work with.
  2. If a component is exported to the data panel with "save as" this will also export the complete parametric design history.
  3. The joints in the "Assemble menu only work with components.
  4. Drawings can only be created from components
Only components show on the BOM
