Issue with multple gearing

I have a larger gear, with a smaller gear. This inner gear consists of 3 bearings which make the bigger wheel turn. I have joined them all together with revolve joints. But for some reason, when I connect the 3rd bearing of the inner gear. The whole gear freezes. When I connect the first & second gear, I did not have this problem. What causes this issue?

Hey @sjeffff ,

I hope this will help and please let me know if the motion intent is different than what I'm showing in the screencast:

Screencast will be displayed here after you click Post.

@Beyondforce Still waiting, Ben.

Why is Rigid6 involved with that bearing?  I think it being in a rigid group with a grounded Axle, might have some bearing on it.

Might help....

Nah, Ben, it is a working 2:1 gear drive.  Front axle, twice as fast as rear axle. Similar to Geneva wheel.

The big wheel turns the rear axle with the pin (keyway) (He has a grounded dummy axle for it)

The 3 finger plate is turned around the front grounded axle, but the file also had a bearing locked in a rigid group, that I show.  Unlock that and make the bearing rigid to the 3rd finger.

Screencasts get lost for me, too.

Might help...

Nah, Ben, his model has only one error, the rigid with finger 3.

No contact sets, no planar Joint, just Revolve and Motion Link.

The white pin and the rear axle to rotate with the big wheel.

Might help....

Not how I do it, the OP, had most things correct, with one finger locked to the front axle.  I have removed some redundant revolves for the bearings, he may need those for his design, but to get it working,

Animate Model, (Revolve Joint 9).

Might help....

In your screenshot I saw you highlighted the rigid 6 joint. After inspection this turned out to be the problem. What is the best practice for debugging such? The joint icon was not displayed at the bold nor the axle, it was connected to. Not that, that matters. Since selecting a joint does not highlight the associated components (this is only visible when editing).

Is going through every single joint in the browser and editing them 1-by-1, the best approach? Or is there a smarter way to do this?

The easy way to debug was to use Select Components,

right click the Joint in the Browser, halfway down that Menu,

my pic is the result for Rigid6.

Of course then you have to edit / delete that conflict.

I also use the Animate Tools for debugging.

There is another bug that I can’t explain,

looked for it until distracted, and sorry didn’t get back to it.

The white keyway lock Pin and Axle, Animates for 180 degrees and jumps back home, while everything else worked perfectly.  Would like to know if you can fix it.

You can see the components involved in a joint without editing the joint.

Right-click on the joint in the browser and select "show components"

This will highlight the components in the browser as well as in the viewport.
