Issue with external thread - Chamfering a undercut so thread terminates correctly

Hello

I am teaching myself about modeling threads but i have come to a problem i can't fix (I've tried watching a few videos on youtube to no avail).

I'm trying to chamfer the end of a thread as it leads out into the under cut but the thread feature doesn't allow you to extend a thread past the length it's been assigned to.  When i try to add a chamfer it just throws an error (please see history bar in attached photo)

I'd like a 45 degree chamfer instead of blunt stop so the thread terminates into the undercut nicely but i can't get it to work so far.

Any thoughts?

Change the thread type to un-modeled. Apply the chamfer.  Change the thread type back to modeled.
