Is "professional" grade monitor necessary for CAD work?!

Hello,

Long time reader, first time poster. I have been working with Fusion for the last few years, coming from ProE/Creo world, and NX before that. It was a bit of an adjustment but getting on OK.

I have a question in regards to monitors. Up until now I was using Dell P series monitors, 22-24" size FHD and was happy with them and was not really able to use anything else, as that was what work provided.

BUT I have been working with a new design for the last month, which contains A LOT of small features and lots and lots of small lines. With FHD monitor I found myself constantly zooming in and out to check the lines and then overall area around, because otherwise the lines would be too undefined/blurry. That is the first time I though maybe 27-32" QHD or 4K monitor would be a good idea.

I have been reading a lot of "expert" reviews, recommendations, explanations of optimum pixel densities etc etc. But all those monitors "recommended" for professionals working with CAD  just focus on reproduction of colours. I do not care about colours! I mainly work with fabrications, basic surfacing for forgings/castings and drafting. So for me the monitor could be B/W!

So the question would be if anybody are here working with budget QHD or 4K monitors 27-32" in size from any manufacturers budget range? And what are your experiences?

P.S. My workstation can handle the 4k, and as I understand Fusion suppose to support 100% scaling on 4K monitor.

I would generally stay away from "budget" monitors. You get what you pay for!

You are staring at the thing for 18-10 hours a day and often longer if you do stuff on your computer at home for hobby purposes. As such, get the best monitor for the budget you have and perhaps stretch it a bit!

At home, I use a 48" 4k OLED TV (it's the only TV I own so it had to serve a dual purpose) with screen scaling, because even at that size, in 4K, icons and text become just too small for me. I love this setup!

I link here to two youtube videos. This guy is a professional CAD systems administrator. He changed the name of his channel last year and archived a lot of his previous videos, but he's made hundreds of Autodesk Inventor tutorials.

Thanks, Peter. The videos are a bit of a rant, but gave a good idea to look into ultrawide monitors!

With all the shortages of mainstream monitors, there still seem to be a healthy choice of reasonably priced well equipped ultrawide monitors. I think I will give one a go.

For me it's about pixel density. FHD over 24 inches is fine, but when the pixels are diluted over more screen real estate they become blurry.

And I find IPS monitors much softer on my eyes.
