Installing Fusion 360

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hey, I am trying to install Fusion 360 on multiple computers with multiple users; however, whenever I do install Fusion it is only available to the user that installed it and no other user on the computer. If I go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, it will show that AbExDbManger and Fusion have been installed if I am logged in as the user that installed, but not for any other user. The computers are Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks.

Hello,

Fusion 360 is installed per-user because those locations are the ones each users have authority to manipulate.  This makes it easier for users to experiment with the software if they do not have administrative rights, but more importantly allows the software to auto-update itself while it is running (which would not be possible if it needed administrative access in most cases).

We have methods for overriding this in development, but they can be a little more cumbersome than the standard installation, so they are intended for system administrators, and once used, the administrator is responsible for keeping the software up to date... which can be critical since there are compatibility issues with the server side.

I am having the same issue. Could you please provide me with a contact email (or alternatively solution) that I can forward to my school's system administrators, to resolve issue.

Hi Patrick,

Sorry for the delayed response, and not following up to this thread earlier. The process is now officially supported, but I am not 100% sure of what the link I should be distributing is, so I am checking up on that and post it as soon as I find out.

Thanks,
Steven

HI All,

Schools should be able to set up institutional access via the link https://schools.autodesk.com/ .

I have been informed that Fusion access should be available there this week, but I do not know if it will be at the beginning of the week or the end of the week. If your institution gets set up and there are no instructions for Fusion presented by the end of the week, please don’t hesitate to post here again.

Thanks,
Steven

Steven,

I installed my seat on a school computer thinking I could also download a copy on my personal computer. What can I do to get it on my PC?

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin,

For your personal computer, you should be able to install through the link at http://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360

As long as you use the same user account on both computers, they will be able to use the same seat and the same data.

Hello,

We downloaded Fusion 360 from https://schools.autodesk.com/,

but we can't find out the way to install it for all users. When we launch the program always ask for the administrator's password.

We are an educational institution (Universidad La Laguna , Universidad de La Laguna—Escuela Politécnica Superior Ingeniería, San Cristobal de la Laguna) and we want our students use this software as authenticated users, not as administrators.

Could you tell us how to install the software for all users?

Thank you.

Hi,

I am sorry to say that I am not completely familiar with what is presented in various situations on our education portal[s].

However, I believe if you visit the link here: http://www.appstreaming.autodesk.com/install/edu/73e72ada57b7480280f7a6f4a289729f/

You will gain access to instructions that will meet your needs.

If you are already familiar with this, then we can further discuss the shortcomings in the various options to try to find a satisfactory solution.

Thanks,
Steven

Hello,

I have also just recalled that we have had problems similar to those described in the past when using the all-users installation.

I thought they have been addressed, but if not, here are the options:

  1. If launching the application from the user's account that actually performed the install is exhibiting this administrator prompt behavior, you may choose to ignore the problem. It is likely that other users that log in to the systems using thier own accounts will not experience it, since this is due to some files/directories that were created in the current user's profiles when Fusion launched at the end of the install with administrator priveleges.
  2. If you wish to eliminate the prompt even on the installing user's account, you can try to delete "%localappdata%\Autodesk" before launching the application again.  If you have other autodesk products installed, this may negatively impact them, so we have more specific instructions here: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-...
  3. In the future, suppress the final launch of Fusion during the install process by supplying the --quiet command line parameter.

If you still see the prompt... particularly with different user accounts, please let me know.  This would be a situation I am unfamiliar with and would need to do some investigation.

Thanks,

Steven

Hi,

It sounds like you may have run Fusion 360 initially when logged in as the admin. To correct this login as the admin account and navigate to \users\<username>\appdata\local\autodesk and delete the Fusion folders. Then log out and login as the user and see if it launches.

In general to use Fusion for more than one user on a computer it needs to be installed globally. There are 2 ways you can install Fusion 360 globally on a computer - either using the FusionAdminInstall package (this download includes the entire program and when run installs Fusion 360 to the \Program Files folder) or using the Fusion 360 Client Downloader via the command line (with command line arguments). Information is available on the Schools web pages.

Hope this helps.

What I remember doing that fixed the issue was running the executable
("Fusion 360 Client Downloader.exe" I believe) with the --globalinstall
flag.

That's correct.

Actually, the complete syntax is:      "fusion 360 client downloader.exe" --globalinstall --quiet

This installs Fusion 360 in the background (no UI).

You can also download from the "schools" pages and run the Fusion 360 Admin Install.exe (Windows)/Autodesk Fusion 360 Admin Install.pkg (OSX). This does the same thing and requires no command line work.

Thanks for all the solutions, but none of them has worked.

I have followed all the steps of each solution without success.

The program doesn't work for multiple authenticated users in a dominion or even in a workgroup (in Windows 7 & Windows 10).

It's the first time we have such problem: AutoCAD 2015, Inventor 2015, Recap 2015, Vault 2015, Revit 2016... all of them work fine. Only Revit requiered a change of permissions.

Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time.

Hi ccetsii

Sounds like a phone call may be the most efficient way to resolve the issue.

If so, can you send me an email using kevin dot baribault at autodesk dot com with a number, day, and time we can connect?
