in the model WS how do I set the Z axis as the up daown axis?

How do I change it so the Z axis is up down.  I tried changing in preferences from Y to Z but it does not appear to work.

The preference change will take effect the next time you start a new design.  If you want to change the current design's orientation, pull the error down next to the view cube and use the "set current view as..."
