Importing latest version of Assembly moves sub components around

Hello.

whenever I import the latest version of an assembly into the main project, the sub-components of that assembly get scattered around the scene, despite beign in the right place inside the assembly project.

Why does this happen?

Only reason I could think of is that when I first imported the assembly I moved it around, this could (maybe?) mess with component positiong.

By "import" do you mean "Insert into Current Design" from the Data Panel?  If so I would suspect you have not fully defined the Joints in the assembly to hold it together.

Yes I used "Insert into current design".

I haven't defined any joints in the main assembly file, should I?

This my first complex assembly I work on, the idea is to just align things and see if there is any intersection.

If an assembly is fully positioned using Joints, it will retain this positioning when inserted into a new design as a sub-assembly.  I think this answers your question.  When you start adding Joints to an assembly, make sure you have at least one, base component, grounded.  This keeps the orientation to the top level origin intact.

Solved.

The problem was that when I initially imported the sub assembly into the main one, to better position it I moved the origin point of the sub assembly inside the main project. When I would later import a new version of the sub assembly, the two origin points would be out of sync and that would mess things up, apparently.

The solution is to either put the origin point back before importing a new version or not moving the origin point at all.

I wish there was an option to center the origin point based on the bounding box of the object, this would make it easy to move the it back after any manipualtion.

Hi,

The yellow symbol indicates that something was changed on the parent component after insertion. This could also be a move action.
