Implicit Joint Origin error

How do you find and resolve an ImplicitJointOrigin error?

In an attempt to find the offending model, I deleted items from the end of the Timeline until the error disappeared.  Unfortunately, I ended up with an empty file 😳

Attached file has one remaining empty component and still shows the error.

Downloaded and open your file, the error is not present.  I guess you just needed save it and reopen again.

You also need to do a Compute All to show the error.

So, does anyone have a solution for dealing with Implicit Joint Origins?

No, unfortunately.  We are working on a fix even now, but it is not yet available.  I don't know of any user way to get rid of those.  We've used your design to test it, so thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for the reply.  I can repro the bug in the current file by deleting a particular curve (and also a particular line) or changing it to a construction line.

Let me know if you need the full file.

absolutely, @etfrench - if you are willing to share the design in its good state, with a recipe for how to get it to go wrong, it would be helpful to make sure we have blocked the creation of this problem.  We really appreciate it.

@jeff_strater How far are you guys with the solution for that problem?

This should have been fixed a fairly long time ago.  Just to be clear, what was fixed was:  If you have a Joint with an implicit Joint Origin missing, you should now be able to Edit that Joint, and re-select the component geometry to fix the Joint.  There are some restrictions (you should always be able to select geometry on the same component).  There are limitations about selecting a component in a completely different sub-assembly, or higher in the hierarchy.  If you are interested in the specific limitations, let me know, since I do not remember offhand exactly what they are.

Thanks for your reply.
Hmm, I attached in a current assembly - should this not coming up and be fixed long time?

You attach a picture, did you want to attach a model as well?

No I wanted to attach the picture - should I attach the model in which this occurs as well?

I am sure @jeff_strater would appreciate it so he can see first hand what is happening.  If it is a large assembly with linked components and you have a Fusion 360 license other than Personal, then a database link would be better.

I don't read German (presumably what is in the picture).  But, what I guess is that it is reporting missing geometry from an Implicit Joint Origin.  The fix I describe will not prevent these errors occurring, nor will it fix existing errors without action on your part.  These are presumably legitimate errors caused by an edit to your design.   The change made simply allows you to fix the error by editing the Joint and selecting new geometry.  Previously that did not work.

So what is the action I have to do on my part to get rid of that annoying message? If the model itself knows that there is something missing- why cant F360 point me to the action needed to fix it?

I believe I answered that:  You need to edit the Joint that has failed and re-select component geometry for that Joint.

If I would know which one it is I would do so. But unfortunately F360 is not telling me which one it is to edit. Would appreciate if you have a look inside the model so you can see what I mean

ah, OK, I did not have the file when I answered that.  I have the file now, and looked - this is a different problem than the one I was referring to.  Rarely, Fusion will run into a scenario where these implicit joint origins are left dangling in a model.  There is no normal command to deal with this, but there is a text command.  In the text command window, make sure that the type is set to "txt", and type in: "Fusion.CleanDanglingJointOrigins".  In this model, it found and removed 5 of these items.  The design looks clean after that.  I added the repaired design, in case you want to just use that.

@jeff_strater
Jeff, thank you so much for looking into that and thanks for the heads up how I can fix that.

Just tried the text commeand in my model and it worked!

You made my day! Thanks!
