IGES files seem to be empty

When I upload IGES files, and then open them I get a blank screen.  No problem with other file types, but the time line is only supported in a few file types.  IGES is the only supported file type I can save drawings as.

Never mind Problem solved

BREP (solid or surface bodies) are supported. Mesh and Sculpt (T-splines) bodies will not export to IGES. Not sure if that's what the issue was, but I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi;

Same problem for me.

I'm a novice so be patient...

I have opened a project, a .stp file, and I want the iges file overlaid on the other file. There is nothing there. There is data in the file but Fusion 360 does not see it.

... any ideas?

Thanks

Welcome to the Fusion Community!

Which method are you using to open the file? See the below link for reference.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...

Is it possible to share the STEP or IGES file that is giving you trouble?

Thanks,

Sorry, you where replying to pkihome

Thanks Nathan,

I was trying to use the wrong (in my case) format to import sketches.  The dxf format work perfectly.

Hi;
Thanks for the quick response.
I have opened a project, its an STP file.
Then I want to overlay a IGS file in the project. The IGS file has the exact location of some holes so I can build around the holes.
However when I load the file there is nothing there...?
I have used the cloud to upload the file (holes.igs) then it shows up in the data in my folder panel. I have tried to drag and drop in the open STP file. (nothing there).
When I do drag and drop the IGS file into the open STP file it  (the holes.igs file) shows up in my project browser, but nothing shows up on the STP image.
Used the 'new design from file'(nothing there).
I have attached the IGS file see if you think it is valid.
I tried to up load the .igs file but the posting message page will not allow a .igs file (I get an error).
How would I send you the .igs file in question?
How would I convert the .igs file to a a valid format to load?

Thanks

With the other design open, can you try right click on the design (IGES) file in the data panel and select the Insert into Current design command?

The IGES file didn't appear to be attached, do you mind uploading again?

I hope this helps!

I tried to upload it and the 'reply to message' would not allow the .igs format, and gave me an error.

I have attached it again.

I tried the method you described and that showed up in my browser tree, but nothing I could see.

Your messaging system will not allow a .igs file. Please advise...

@Anonymous I still did not see the attachment. It may help to compress the file into a ZIP file before uploading it.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi Nathen;

This is the holes.igs in a zip file.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

I opened that file up in Inventor. All that is in there is some sketch geometry (wires). There's no solid geometry for Fusion 360 to import. Could you get the file in a different file format like DWG or DXF?

I hope that helps!

Thanks,
