How to update an imported fusion assembly

Anonymous

Just learning Fusion. Imported a simple Inventor Assembly into Fusion, then later went back & added a new part (.ipt) to the original Inventor assembly.

The new part does not show up in the Fusion version of that assembly.

How to update the Fusion version of that assembly to match the Inventor version?

Thanks in advance

Hello Marshall,

Fusion 360 does not, as yet support Inventor like AnyCAD workflow. This is being strongly considered addition into Fusion.

You would have to move over to the newly updated and imported Inventor assembly and then start using it. Surely, your downstream features are now busted until AnyCAD shows up in Fusion.

Shrirang,

Thanks for the quick reply.

What I originally did was to create a "New Design From File" using an STP file I exported from Inventor.

Since the STP file is not dynamically linked to the original Inventor Assembly, the Fusion version of the assembly did not update when the Inventor Assembly updated.

What I did to work around the problem was to create a new STP file from the updated Inventor Assembly & over-wrote the STP file I already had. I then was able to do a "New Design from File" again to get the updated Fusion Assembly.

Thanks,

Hi Marshall,

Agree, this is a hacky workflow. This workaround will work as long as you don't invest heavily in the downstream features.

Another approach would be to just bring in any new components (not the whole Inventor assembly) and upload it, and then insert this into the earlier Fusion assembly.

Let's be in touch....we would like to reach out to you as/when we bring in the AnyCAD facility in Fusion.

Thanks for sharing!

Shrirang,

Thanks again - I will take your suggestion about uploading the new parts and bringing them into the Fusion assembly.

Again, I'm new to Fusion, so constraining components (or creating joints) as in Inventor will take some practice on my part.

Excellent idea - please stay in touch

Best,
