How to rotate the model in the screen plane?

In order to box select only the faces I wanted in one of the tutorial models, I tried to rotate it so that an angled part of it was vertical.

With the screen being the XY plane I found that I could only rotate the model about the X and Y axes, but not the Z axis.

How is that done?

In the CAD s/w I previously used (I-DEAS), with the mouse near the center of the screen the model would rotate about the screen X axis if moved vertically and the Y axis if moved horizontally, and with the mouse near the perimeter it would rotate about the screen Z axis.

@Noah_Katz,

Fusion offers constrained orbit options.  I think this is what you are looking for.

If you click the leftmost button in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen (called the Navigation Bar), you can change the orbit mode.

Thanks, Josh, but I tried that; I believe it fixes the pivot point but doesn't change the axis of rotation.

Actually, looking at the orbit icons, the one for free shows rotation about the X and Y axes, and the one for constrained shows rotation only about Y, even though they both allow both.

The problem was that my monitor brightness is such that I couldn't see the circle that appears on the screen (which when dragged rotates the model about the screen Z axis) when Constrained Orbit is selected.

@Noah_Katz,

Glad you got it figured out.
