How to remove red frame from canvas

After inserting a canvas there is a red frame around it.

How can I remove it?

It happens on both JPG and PNG.2018-10-24_00-21-59.png

Can you apply as a Decal?

Quick mock-up example Attached.

Thanks for a detailed answer.

I started with a decal but hidden mounting screws and cutouts shows when using a decal.

I wish there was an option in decal to bridge open holes but I guess that is why there is canvas.

Hopefully there is an option to get rid of the red border.

File>Export and then Attach the *.f3d file of your attempt here. (And the image file.)

@Bertho_Boman

There is other problems with using Canvas...it will not show up in renders.

As @JDMather suggested can you share your file, we can probably show you a better way to do this.

No, that's not why there is canvas.

Your application requires a decal. But of course you're applying the image to a face. You need to make a new component called 'Sticker' or whatever, that covers your desired face that has the holes and fasteners to be covered, and has an appropriate thickness, and apply your image to the face of that Sticker component.

Life is never simple!

I created a 0.01mm thick sticker with the size of the desired picture and brought in a picture as a decal and placed  it on the sticker.

I dragged the decal to the center of the sticker and started to increase the scale to make it fit the stickler.  I gradually increased the scale and when I went slightly too far the decal apparently jumped around the edge and stretched the picture to cover the back side too.  For example, 2.4 is slightly too small, 2.5 wraps around stretches it  about two times too much.

I understand what happened but unfortunately I think I have found an "insect": Changing the scale back to 2.4 or a smaller value does not reduce the size of the decal.  It ought to follow  the scale setting.

So I am back at how to place a picture with transparent corners on a sticker of the same size?

Try making your 'sticker' component as a surface in the Patch environment with no thickness and see what happens?

Make the “Sticker” a bit oversized and add the Decal.

Trim back the Sticker.

If you can’t figure it out then File > Export and then Attach your *.f3d file here.

Sounds simple to me.

I tied to create the suggested surface in patch but was not successful.  I am still learning and I have been spending almost all my time in the model environment.

I am surprised that there are not straightforward procedures for what I am trying to do.  An option in decal to include a flat "sticker" and not wrap.

A very related issue is the corners of the photo used.  My first quick sample is a screen capture. My second sample has transparent corners and ideally the background surface should show through.

I have attached the files and both pictures.

Thank you for taking the time teaching.

I see a number of questionable modeling practices - so I will have to recreate from scratch.

Is it your intention to have these holes offset as you have dimensioned?

The LCD mounting holes are intentionally offset to make the display window centered.

I downloaded the enclosure from the manufacturer and I have been adding the holes afterwards.

I have seen educational videos for decals on curved surfaces.  Maybe there should be one for similar cases to mine:

1.  Holes and cutouts

2.  A rectangular picture with transparent corners

Is this what you want? I suspect the reason your decal was wrapping was because you had chain faces selected.

Sorry that was the wrong pic and file. Here is the correct ones. you have to make sure Chain Faces is not picked.

It is close.

The four LCD mounting holes should not be seen and the simulated display is missing.

What I want is shown in my first request but without the red outline.

Of course the what corners are not wanted too.  I attached a second picture that has transparent corners.  Ideally the background should show through the transparent corners.

Thank you Phil,

That looks perfect!

What steps did you do?

Decal with a background sticker?

Did you use the transparent corner picture?

So many questions!

@Bertho_Boman

If you step through the timeline you can see exactly what I did.

1.) created a sketch on the front face using your canvas you had as reference. The sketch was made up of a box with filleted corners. The reason I filleted the corners was so there wouldn't be any weird geometry showing.

2.) Hid the canvas.

3.) Extruded the sketch 0.2. Originally I when 0.1 and it worked fine but there was a graphics glitch in the view port so I made it 0.2 to resolve that.

4.) Applied a shiny black plastic material to the extrusion.

5.) Applied the decal to the top face of the extrusion. Because of the way I filleted the corners to match the decal you can use either file for the decal.

I can make a video if you need it to see how it all came together.

Cheers,

Phil

Thank you Phil,

I am even learning how to use this help system/message board.

I did not realize that you also included the updated file.

That is great!
