Sometimes when orbiting around an object, it doesn't orbit the expected point, but instead around the main origin, and I couldn't figure it out when it does this, becasue I have the feeling it's not every time.

Are there any tricks to orbit always around the point I clicked , or around the center of the screen?

I am also having this issue. It makes it extremely difficult to orbit the 3D space while in sketch mode when adjusting my fit-point spline for a cable.

looking forward to an answer.

check that "enable camera pivot" is selected in preferences.  Then a single quick click of the wheel (or shift-wheel, or how ever you have your tumble navigation set up) will drop a green dot at the pointer location.  that becomes the point the scene will tumble around

I think there may be a bug where sometimes it doesn't work right in sketches.  I've had camera pivot enabled since the beginning of time and yet sometimes orbit still doesn't work right in sketches.

the solution is to place a new green dot, but I didn't know how. So while in Sketch Edit mode, DOUBLE CLICK the WHEEL button, this will create a new green dot in that location, from there on, the orbit around the object works as expected 🙂

Thanks a lot ! I was having nightmares rotating the camera while in sketch mode.

Double clicking the wheel button seems to work like a charm.

It's a pity however to be required to double click the wheel button or (manually set the orbit center) to get a usable rotate feature in sketch mode.

Seems like a bug to me, as this behaviour is not consistent with other modes.

Yes, for whatever reason double clicking the middle mouse button makes the orbit center work correctly again.  But it really shouldn't be required.

I've had the same issue, and just fund out that hitting ''HOME''-icon view makes me able to orbit in sketch mode.
