How to move bodies in component in relation to another component

I am trying to modify positions of bodies in imported multi body part in relation to other subassembly.

You should first try to understand the difference between a body and a component in Fusion 360.

Imported geometry is automatically converted into components that are containig one or more bodies. Only rarely do you want to move the body withyin the componnet, but rather you want to adjust the position of one component in relation to another.

You can use the move tool to do so, but be careful. slecting a onbject in the viewport by single-left-click slectes the body, not the component. Double-left-click selects the component. Right-clikc then brings up a menu including the move tool.

 

A betterway to adjust locations of components is to use the joints in Fusion 360.

What @TrippyLighting said is perfect. If you just want to move things around quickly to get an idea of what you want, the point to point option when you are moving objects is great. The snap points operate the same way as the joint snap points and nothing is locked into place yet so it is great for design. So to move a part in relation to another, I would use the point to point option and make the two parts touch and then use the manipulator to move it a specific distance. I hope this helps!

A short explanation of the situation here.

I was given a casing model from a supplier, and a circuit board drawing. Based on that drawing i made a model and and what I want to do now is move the threaded inserts in the casing to required position and send file back.

Your screencast contains severl things which indicate a suboptimal workflow.

 

Almost all your components/assemblies are linked components/assemblies and that REALLY is hindering a smooth workflow.

 

Linked components are static and if you want to move a subcomponent in a linked assembly you'll have to open the linked file, edit it, save it and then when going back to your main assembly you'l have to follow th warings that "one or more componentsa are out of date" and update these to the latest version. You should re-think your over-use of linkde components as that is really not necessary in Fusion 360.

 

Then, what you actually are wanting to move is a single body in a multi-body component. I am assuming that all the threaded inserts are bodies and I am wondering whether these should be components that are properly assembled to the plate they are inserted to. It's certainly what I'd do.

It is a learning process for me. I just started using Fusion 360.

On the other hand, I was given some models made in different programs, and I need to verify if they would work with some new components. This way seemed like the easiest way to do it.

Not sure about promoting bodies from multi body component to components, as in real life inserts are permanently bonded to the plate and act as single part.
