how to make an assembly from two parts that are saved separately

I have two parts that are saved in separate files and i want to combine them into one assembly. I am not able to figure out how to do this.

I've found a solution(link below) but it seems to be a very old solution and i don't think that it is not applicable any more.

Edit: I also want to point at that i want to add a dependent instance of the part to the new assembly.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Just right click the part in the data panel and there's an option Insert into Current Design. After inserting the components will have a link icon, right click the component and select break link if you want them independent, not linked to the external design.
