How to Keep Components in Individual Files?

Is there a way to keep components on separate files and then bring then together on a master assembly?

Yes.  Create each part as a component.  Insert the components from the Data Panel into an open assembly file, exactly as you would do with most other CAD systems, like Solidworks.
