Hello, I have created an object using the FORM menu, and would like to hollow out the main body and also the spout.  I am very new to Fusion 360 and would appreciate any assistance with this task.  I have attached a picture of the object I created for your review.  Thank you.

Cheers,

Philsburry

After finishing the form try Modify-> Shell. There is a chance this may not work.

If that happens please come back and share your model (export as .f3d and attach to post).

Hello Peter,

Thank you for the prompt response.  I've already tried using shell before I reached out on this forum.  Appreciate the suggestion.

I've attached the model per your request.

Cheers,

Phil

Right, and you got an error message you also forgot to mention 😉

Anyway, in the current form, this isn't ever going to shell. In the screencast, I am modifying the T-spline so it creates better, more regular geometry. I am also creating this as an open surface, which I later patch and then shell.

You can see that I do most of the modeling in box-view mode, simply because if it looks OK in box-view usually it looks OK in smooth-view and then might only need minor modifications.

I've attached the model so you can see the T-spline layout.

Peter, I am speechless!

I am grateful for the time and effort you had put in to record the steps taken to rectify the issue.  Are there any resources that you recommend I look into to get a better understanding of this powerful tool?

Thank you.

Cheers,

Phil

N.B - My apologies for leaving out the error I had encountered in my previous post.

Hi I saw your question and thought I'd post some materials for you and anyone else who might benefit from your question.

The help pages are a little light on Shell theory, and I couldn't find a definitive guide. Because it's a long time CAD concept it's a little bit organic knowledge. But here goes, some tutorials found on the Fusion 360 YouTube channel:

Creating Hollow Objects with the Shell Tool

Quick Tip: Form to Solid to Shell

Shell Awesomeness (NYC CNC)

Good luck!
