How to fill in an irregular body

Hi I have this 3d model of a IMOCA 60 and I want to print it

In the software of the 3d printer the hull was filled with holes. (3d printer isn't mine)

So I wanted to fill in the entire body so that the 3d printer software could do the rest... (my friend said that it would work if it was completely solid)

But I have ran into a lot of problems, like not being able to fill in holes that aren't in one flat plane and such.

And even then I am afraid that if I manage to get rid of the holes, the BOUNDARY FILL won't let me fill in the boat because it is so irregular.

Thank you in advance!

Stef

I am very new to this, and the model isn't completely mine.

Hi @stef_michielshotmail ,

The attached design had lot of open surface ends.
When ever you see an open surface, you can create a new surface and stitch them, when there are no more gaps. The final output will be BRep(Solid).

I have attached the final solid BRep design for your reference.

Note: There are multiple bodies, you need to either combine the bodies or remove them(Remove if its not a part of 3D Print)

Thanks a lot!

So if I understand you correctly: If the body has no openings, then it will be considered a solid?

@stef_michielshotmail ,

Thats right.

For example, The below design is a surface.

  • In the browser if you see this icon Screenshot 2021-04-09 at 6.14.59 PM.png then its a surface.
  • This icon Screenshot 2021-04-09 at 5.51.30 PM.png means its a solid body

When you see a surface body, select all the surfaces and select 'Stitch' command.

The Red edges shows open ended, Green edges shows the 2 surfaces that can be stitched.

If you properly fill all the open ended edges and stitch them then it will be solid.
