How to cut slit through mesh body?

Hey all. I downloaded this 3D printable file which i'd like to modify. When i export it out of my slicer program, it saves as an .stl. When i import it into fusion 360 it's a mesh body. What i'd like to do is modify it so that i can create a slit up the entire seat (the portion you'd sit on) to slide in an iphone cord while it's attached to the phone. Can't quite figure out how to do that. Ideas?

Somewhat, yes. But all the way through the bottom so you can slide the cable in without disconnecting it from the phone.

This is even easier.

You can also make it this way.

First of all, convert the mesh into a solid.

convert mesh.jpg

Move the solid with point to point so that it is symmetrical to the origin.

Create a sketch with a rectangle.
The rectangle is aligned symmetrically to the origin.
Extrude the rectangle profile downwards to cut out the solid.

Very good! Thank you. I’m still learning lol. I did go to convert the mesh body before I came to ask for help. It gave me three options. The last option I had to pay for. The first two still looked like mesh to me so that’s where I got confused.

There are not curves in the design.  Not one.

All straight lines and triangular planar facets.
